estandarte

The parish of Asseiceira (whose name derived from the word Salgueiral) is considered the "pearl of the municipality of Tomar", benefiting the environment of the confluence with the River Nabão Zêzere, situated on the Roman road of Scalabis Penela, between Heath and the Watchtower Evil Pine Haven.

In the parish, the highlights are the places: Asseiceira, Cherry River Mouth, Crane, Linhaceira and Santa Cita.

Its population exceeds 3,500 inhabitants.

Asseiceira belonged to the Knights Templar, as the earliest documentary reference to the parish on the donation to an inn that it made the Master of the Order, Peter Alvito in 1218.

As still further abandoned in 1222, at the mercy of "marginal," said Master would change his plans, giving the land to Peter Smith, from the place to develop then the pair of neighboring Watchtower. The Order would take back possession of the land in 1229, through the donation of Peter Smith.

On November 20, 1253, D. Afonso III granted him, as the Watchtower, a number of privileges such as not to give horses, guns or men but to the king, which were to be confirmed in 1365 by D. Pedro, and in 1499, by D. Manuel I.

In 1281, Torres Novas tried to take over the inn, but the intervention of the commander of Tomar, led to the intervention of D. Beatrice, widow of D. Afonso III. The great protector of Asseiceira would, however, King Dinis, who, in 1315, sent to populate the present parish, giving charter letter, a privilege confirmed by D. Manuel I in 1497.
